MUTARE TO INHASSORO 25th March 2022
The Zimbabwean's discovered my vehicle overstayed by one day and they were kind enough to let me go with only a warning. Mozambique was easy after paying $85 for TIP, 3rd party insurance and toll fees we were on our way out and the policeman asked for some money and I told him I don't pay bribes, he waved me on.
The roads were rather nice for the first 200km and then it was a disaster, the potholes were huge and never ending, never seen such huge and devastating holes. We crawled along for hours dodging trucks, cows, people and potholes and ended up taking 11 hours to get to Good Villas campsite in Inhassoro.
In the morning we were able to appreciate the campsite which is right at the beach and is all grass with nice shady trees and the ablutions were first class and there was a swimming poll and five chalets that were all occupied by a bunch of South African Afrikaaners. That was a long sentence.
The beach goes on forever in both directions, and walked it everyday. The hawkers would come by selling fish and lobsters which we had on several occasions. The water is to warm , 28 degrees C. Went into the village and got new sim cards and some beer and advos, the fruit is so cheap .
Most of the lodges along the beach, and there are a lot, have closed down, due to covid I would imagine and there are hardly any tourists around. The locals always greet you and call you boss but none of them ask you for money or harass you, unlike Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Then we met Henri from Belgium who is cycling, started in Kenya and heading to Cape Town via Zimbabwe and Namibia and the Afrikaaners took him deep sea fishing and fed him, so hope to see him when we get back down to CT.
We ended up staying a week and then left for Morrungulo ( 1st April ) which is 250km south and on the ocean. We are currently here now at Bonito Bay Resort and once again only one's here, and they let you use a Chalet for the bathroom and I plug in my fridge and we can use the porch and they supply charcoal for the braai, not a bad deal for 600 Meticals pppn. They have a lovely bar, pool area and it sits up on a dune high above the ocean, so the views are amazing.
